Some Facts about OSEF

OSEF (Organisme de Séjours Educatifs Français), European association founded in 1994, promotes linguistic and cultural exchanges between France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Spain, as well as all English speaking provinces in Canada, and now, the United States.

OSEF is supported by Canadian school boards and their French equivalent "rectorats". It also has the support of the Ministry of Education in Belgium, the Cultural service of the French Embassies in New York. These exchanges are for students aged 13-17 years of age. There are two primary exchange options:

  • The Summer Exchange: About 100 students participate every year in OSEF's 1-month homestay program. Students spend the month of July in Europe at their European partners' home, and return to their English-speaking partners' homes for the month of August. The students live with their host family for the entire month, and are immersed in the culture and lifestyle of that family.
    • Summer 2017 exchanges are accepting applications now!
  • The School Exchange: Each year in August, over 400 students from different regions of France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain begin a 6-, 9- or 11-week exchange trip to North America where they stay with an exchange partners' family. They attend school and are given an attendance report. The European students return home in approximately November.  After the winter holidays, North American students (from the U.S. and Canada) travel to Europe to attend the exchange partner schools, living with the European host family from February until the end of April (depending on the arrival date).
    • The 2017/2018 School Exchange program is accepting applications now!

We are unique because we chaperone all students, we provide valuable homestay exchange opportunities with families who share interests and values, and support the exchange back. These supports help build lasting relationships and ensure the best experience possible. OSEF also provides safety and guarantees through home liability coverage and insurance to provide reimbursement for hospital and repatriation fees if incurred.

Some Facts about OSEF (copie)

OSEF (Organisme de Séjours Educatifs Français), a French association instituted through Bill 1901 and founded in 1994, promotes linguistic and cultural exchanges between France, Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as all English speaking provinces in Canada, Australia, and the U.S.

OSEF is supported by Canadian school boards and their French equivalent "rectorats". It also has the support of the Ministry of Education in Belgium, the Cultural service of the French Embassies in New York, and in Peking, China. These exchanges are for students aged 13-17 years of age.

  • Summer Exchange: About 100 students participate every year in OSEF's 1-month homestay program. Students spend the month of July in France, returning tp their English-speaking partners' homes for the month of August.
  • 6-, 9- & 11-week programs: Each year, in August, over 400 students from different regions of France, Belgium and Luxembourg participate in a 6, 9 or 11 week exchange trip to North America. French students stay from mid-August until the beginning of November. All stay with their exchange partners' families, and attend school, where they are given an attendance report. The North American students travel to Europe from February until the end of April (depending on the arrival date). They also attend their exchange partners' schools.

Every year, Christine LENFANT visits the French "rectorats" to meet and inform them about the programs. She also visits officials in Canada and OSEF registers with the secretaries of state in U.S. states where exchanges are occuring.

OSEF organizes informational meetings in November and December in schools throughout France, Canada, and the U.S. Candidates and their parents complete the application form, followed by a family file, which will assist OSEF to identify the most suitable exchange partner based on their age, character traits, interests, and so forth.

In every country (including the USA), our volunteer coordinators are in place to assist students with any concerns that may arise. Before his/her departure, the candidate will receive a card with the names and phone numbers of these coordinators.

In May and June, Christine Lenfant and her team hold preparatory meetings for the candidates and their parents. Students travel on regular air lines with a point-to-point chaperone. Chaperones are available to students and families at all times should any problems occur.

OSEF has home liability coverage. French and Canadian students are covered by their parents' home liability insurance policies. Furthermore, students are insured to provide reimbursement for hospital and repatriation fees if incurred.
